Lucknow: Lok Dal national president Chaudhary Sunil Singh has taken a sharp swipe at Jayant Chaudhary over his recent remark that he had not taken the “contract” of representing the Jat community.
Reacting to the statement, Singh said, “You cannot take the contract of the Jat community even if you wanted to, because the Jat community has now understood everything.” He stressed that the Jat community was not a “contract” and had become aware of the realities of politics.
Singh alleged that political leaders had earlier invoked the name of the Jat community to build political influence and secure electoral support. However, he said that when it was time to answer questions concerning the community and farmers, leaders were now distancing themselves by saying they had not taken responsibility for the community.
The Lok Dal chief said the issue was not about taking a “contract” but about fulfilling responsibility. According to him, leaders who made major promises to farmers and the Jat community must now be prepared to account for those commitments.
Singh also highlighted issues concerning farmers, including remunerative crop prices, pending sugarcane payments and solutions to their longstanding problems. He said the Jat community was closely watching how strongly leaders it had trusted were standing up for its concerns after reaching positions of power.
Taking another dig at Jayant Chaudhary, Singh said the Jat community had “awakened” and would no longer judge political leaders merely by names and slogans. Instead, he asserted, voters would assess leaders on the basis of their work and the strength with which they raise issues concerning the community and farmers.
